Online bio tips

I like this concept, especially if the video "star" is photogenic and outgoing. The first video sample in this article kept me hanging in there for the full 2 minutes.

The Calm (sort of) before The Storm

The end of August has traditionally been a tricky time of year to do business. Are folks on vacation? Are they postponing making big decisions? I would answer yes to these two questions, for the most part. However, are they poised, like Olympic athletes, to launch themselves out from behind the starting line, at the first whiff of the post-Labor Day work week? You betcha. Whether its B2C, B2B or some other (new?) relationship out there, September is and always will be BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. We know that we have a few fleeting weeks before the END-OF-THE-YEAR, when again, a strange holding pattern emerges, where the "holidays" and year's end financial (read TAXES) issues are mightily distracting. There's tremendous pressure to accomplish during the early fall months, as well as tremendous opportunities for launching excellent business communications. A certain focus is back on the part of the consumer/client, and a willingness to achieve as much as possible, refreshed and rejuvenated by the change of seasons (well, at least above a certain latitude). The proverbial "clock" is ticking, and so must our creative minds keep pace and be highly focused on maximizing this short but rich phase of the year.

Cacklefruit: Ugly But Good

My client Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks is beefing up the digital outreach including a very entertaining blog schedule. Read this fun and informative post on the hard to believe fact that some Italian food is truly ugly . . . and enjoy the delightful shared poem by Shel Silverstein.

Cacklefruit: Ugly But Good: Every cuisine has colorful and descriptive names for food, but the Italians have elevated it to poetry. A fine example is their meringue-...

Working in Maine

Glorious day driving up and down the Maine coastline today for meetings with several clients. Felt a little odd not being on vacation with the throngs of other travelers who were clearly NOT working. The air cleared up and was dry, sunny, and breezy, with the faint smell of salt water. Local radio news informed me of the latest happenings while motoring north to Auburn, then back down to Portland. Very interesting to compare the look and feel of New England cities, the public spaces, and approaches to communicating brands and messages everywhere visible. Also, driving styles. I much prefer to drive beyond the borders of MA than within them. Hm, wonder why.

EcoPR in Costa Rica

Just back from 10 days in Costa Rica, and wow, what a positive profile this little nation (the size of West Virginia) has put together vis-a-vis Public Relations. Everywhere one goes, a welcoming face is eager to talk about the numerous virtues of live lived here. Pura Vida! is the official national slogan (The Good/Pure Life!), and there are plenty of examples of the concept. Tour guides are incredibly effective salespeople, touting repeatedly the lack of a national military, the emphasis on education, the environmental conservation program, and the steady growth of organic farming (the largest organic pineapple operation in the world claims Costa Rica its home). San Jose, the capital city, boasts one of the friendliest and efficient airports I've ever been through. Kudos to the strategists and those implementing what clearly is a well-conceived national marketing program. I'm certainly sold on the Costa Rican brand!

Social Media & Customer Value Proposition

Using Social Media to Redefine the Customer Value Proposition

Thanks to Babson College for hosting this morning workshop. Great speakers from Google, Staples, Hubspot, and more, some of whom were Babson alumns. Worthwhile and timely. Client Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks and I attended and collected some great ideas for our SM strategy.

I am so pleased to be working with a number of new clients this spring. Diverse, accomplished, and important influencers within their respective realms, they all present me with wonderful opportunities to serve them well.

On the lighter side . . .

I had a great time learning to bake baguettes at Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks. So much fun that I also attended (yesterday) Baking Artisan Breads. Here's the proof, and oh, was it delicious.

My first-ever loaf of artisan bread. Doesn't it look artsy?

Simple, convincing argument from guru Chris Brogan for incorporating Pinterest and other social media tools into marketing outreach, esp. to the ladies.

Big Changes on facebook -- for the better, I think

Read this good piece on the new Timeline format for facebook. I've tried it for my personal page and think it has much to offer groups and businesses.

Pastry Sunday: Soups & Baguettes

Pastry Sunday: Soups & Baguettes

Looking to switch gears and be a Student vs Consultant this weekend (Superbowl Sunday) at Culinary Underground School for Home Cooks. My friend Chris and I will learn to make classic french soups I've never tried, and bake baguettes to sop up the luscious liquid stuff with. I can't think of a better way to spend this National Holiday.

Want to join us?
